Staff surveyed the 1.4-mile-long street and 83 buildings along either side of North Yakima Avenue, developed recommendations, entered data into WISAARD, and presented findings. Katie conducted archival research to document the development of Naches Avenue, from its inception as part of the 1885 plat for the town of North Yakima, through tree-planting, paving, infilling, and development alongside the avenue.</image:caption>

NWV then prepared a National Register historic district nomination encompassing the 25 houses in the 2-block plat. All the houses were built by a local contractor that remains in business. NWV conducted public meetings to convey the survey findings and the National Register nomination to property owners.</image:caption>

Built ca. 1886, prior to platting of the area, the house and historic pear orchard stand on a large parcel in Beacon Hill and remain a prominent part of the community. The house, built in the Italianate style and later converted to the Queen Anne style, served as the clubhouse for the Jefferson Park Improvement Club starting in 1924. The property is listed to the National Register of Historic Places.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Historic Context, Intensive and Reconnaissance Level Survey Northwest Vernacular prepared a historic context and conducted an intensive and reconnaissance level survey of 100 properties within the neighborhood. This project marked the first historic context specifically for Uptown. Properties surveyed included commercial, single and multi-family, industrial, and religious buildings.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Northwest Vernacular completed a reconnaissance (52 properties) and intensive (10 properties) level survey and conducted two public meetings to convey the survey process and findings. NWV worked with the City staff and the Historic Preservation Commission to identify which properties to survey. The survey encompassed a variety of buildings, including commercial, residential (apartment and single family), religious, government, and Walla Walla University buildings.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Northwest Vernacular completed an intensive level survey of the Fruit Row warehouses along N First Avenue in downtown Yakima. Warehouses dated from the late 1890s through 1969 and consisted of stone, brick, and concrete (block, poured, and pre-cast) buildings. The warehouse corridor remains in active use and is central to the history of agriculture in the valley and the growth of the city.</image:caption>

Built in 1923 and designed by architects Bebb &amp; Gould, the Tudor Revival style building was built by the YMCA and reinforced the extension of the Tudor Gothic or Collegiate Gothic style out from the University campus to the adjoining commercial district west of the campus.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Spencer Howard served as an expert witness on behalf of the Friends of North Rainier Neighborhood Plan and SCALE relative to the Mandatory Housing Affordability Final Environmental Impact Statement (MHA FEIS). Howard assembled geographic information system (GIS) data and overlaid it on proposed land use and zoning changes in the MHA FEIS to convey the extent of inventoried, listed, and properties 50-years of age or older within the MHA FEIS study area.</image:caption>
